Arm Lift Surgery (Brachioplasty)
The aim of this surgery is to remove the excess of skin, to decrease the underneath fat infiltration and to redistribute the skin due to movements as well as repeated weight losses , sagging skin.
Fat infiltrated into the skin is removed by lipoaspiration. The skin excess is removed , leaving a scar whose location and length depends on the amount of skin laxity and on the procedure chosen.
The incisions can be vertical, longitudinal, along the inner arm.
The lifting of the inner arms is always performed under general anesthesia with an overnight hospital stay. The procedure is not very painful but a rest period of 10 to 15 days is preferable. Oedema and bruises disappear in 2-3 weeks. Healing will require special cares by twice daily massages and the application of a silicone film to reduce the risk of developing a thick scar (hypertrophic).
